Heroes Weekly Update 2009-02-02
Another week, another update.
A guild first raid, three Naxxramas teams and the push to 25 man raiding! As always it’s been a busy week in Azeroth for the Heroes of the Alliance.
Raid progression
Well the big news of the week has to be another guild first with the downing of the ‘Spell Weaver’, Malygos. We took what was close to our best team and to be honest, we made it look a bit easy. In the 5 attempts we had on the Dragon Aspect of Magic we always got to Phase 3 and it was really just a matter of practicing controlling the Red Drakes. The photo will be added to the website shortly.
Elsewhere we tried to push the boat out with three Naxxramas teams this week. It was a bit of a push, but we’re eager to give everyone a chance to get into the first raid in the game. We mixed up the teams and bit to try and help others progress and by and large it’s worked well. We’ve had Gwe’s team make a one day clear, and as I write this Azthal’s team is working on the forth and final Construct quarter.
Looking to next week we’re making a push for the 25 mans, and Gwe will be leading us into Heroic Obsidium Sanctum. Should be a good one and a great chance to get some Tier 7 + gear. As always the raid is on the website calender.
News in the world
Most of the world news this week has revolved around how terrible patch 3.0.8 has been to the game. Blizzard are known in the industry to be as badge of quality and many feel that the patch simple isn’t upto the standard they’ve come to expect from the Starcraft developer. Indeed some have said that this may be a sign of things to come with the recent takeover of Blizzard by the goliath publisher, Activision. I guess only time will tell.
With the Lunar Festival continuing we’re seeing many ‘Elders’ amongst us and if you want the title, then you should get speaking to the near countless Elders scattered around Azeroth, Outland and beyond. A full guide to the location of every Elder can be found on http://www.wowwiki.com/Elders.
The Fun Part

World of Warcraft isn’t just for us geeks, people from all walks of life play the game, including a one Mia Rose. Mia is actually a porn star and a life long gamer having been brought up on Legend of Zelda and Final Fantasy. Allakhazam have bagged an interview with her and it’s actually a fantastic chat and I think her opinions on the game are spot on.
Obviously this is completely safe for anyone viewing at work or home, so don’t worry.

Well that’s about it for this week of Heroes Weekly, look forward to giving you an update in a weeks time, and remember be good!

Welcome to another Heroes Weekly Update
Another week, another update.
Nothing much new have happened it guild this week, but there have been event, no doubt about that. Patch 3.0.8 hit this week, with all it's glorious bugs, and The Lunar Festival just popped up with a whole load of archivements for the junkies around here. But lets start with the raiding.
Raid progression
Gwer's team did another fast and easy clear of Naxx, now truly having it on farm status. Not much more to say there. Out second Naxx team run by Enkil also made some good progress last week, downing 10/15 bosses, finally beeing stopped by Grobbulus. Not a bad haul though, considering that the team the week before only got one boss down.
We also headed for another try on Sarth + 1 drake and failed miserably. Last week we picked the drake with lots of whelps, even though we had crappy AOE. This week we picked another one, even though we had lots and lots of aoe. Go figure.
There have been no new tries on Malygos, but I have no doubt that we will get him down the next time we go for him.
News in the world
Ah, an interesting week this one. Patch 3.0.8 hit, bringing several lovely bugs. Wintergrasp crashed the servers (nothing we got to experience on EU severs though) and was shut down for a day or so. Also heard that Arenas was bugged, giving a ton of rating to everyone, but that it was later reser. Good game blizzard!
The other thing thats going around is the Lunar Festival, starting today.
Was planning on making a small guide for what to do during the festival, but came to the conclusion that it's a pretty crappy one. What you can do is travel around the world looking for some elders, but thats about it.
If you want a couple of fast archivements, go to a fireworks vendor and get yourself 10xfirecrackers and 10xred rockets, then shoot em in the air as fast as you can. Grats, 2 fast and cheap archivements.
The Fun Part
For the fun part I was gonna link a little guide for Sartharion. Might be useful as we have had some issues with this boss, and this might help people out. A small teaser and link:

Welcome to another Heroes Weekly Update
It's been a pretty good week in HOTA, especially with the raiding content. For myself, i've also found out the wonderful gold making abilities of Mining. Marvelous I tell you!
That is not something you want me jabbering about though, so without further chat, lets look at this weeks raiding.
Raid progression
This sunday Gwers team managed to clear Naxx, with Kel'Thuzad going down. To top that, Kel'Thuzad was downed with 9 men (and women), lacking one DPS. This means that we now are 15/15 in Naxx10, and only got Malygos and Sartharion + drakes left.
Malygos have been a thorn in our food for a couple of weeks now. Gwers team have had a couple of jabbs at it, and is improving. The expectations is high on bringing him down this week as well.
We also had a jab at Sarth +1 drake, but failed. The belief is that we picked the wrong drake, considering that we had close to no AOE damage. New try next wednesday, and this time we will get him down.
The other Naxx team, run by Enkil, have only just had a peek into Naxx, downing 1 boss on their first run last week. The expectations are high for this week though, and atleast one quarter is going down Sunday evening.
News in the world
The official Patch Notes for patch 3.0.8 have recently been updated. If you like to stay on top of stuff, go read them, or head to MMO-Champion for a summery of the changes.
Another interesting thing is that next Saturday The Lunar Festival begins. As with all festivals in WoW we will have quests and fun stuff to do. I'm no archivement junkie, but I take for granted that there will be some of those up for grabs as well
More info about this will come in next Heroes Weekly, with information about what you can do during the festival, and where.
The Fun Part
This weeks fun part comes in form of a forum post by Davarnus. He found a neat little essay about the physics and stuff in World of Warcraft. It's fun and interesting, cause it's not entierly serious. I strongly recomend that you have a look at the forum post here:
Science of the World of Warcraft
Reflection
As this is the second week of Heroes Weekly, I thought I would ask if anyone actually read this, and if so, what they think about it. All feedback is good feedback, so if there's something you like, don't like or just is missing, head over to the forums and tell me. This part is just as new for me as for you, and I'm sure there's many things that can be improved

Heroes Weekly Update

Welcome to Heroes Weekly Update
This spot right here tend to be pretty empty, but that's something i'm planning on changing - starting today.
The idea is to post a weekly update on whats going on in guild every weekend (can't promise any specific dates, never know when that hungover hits you) and this is the first of these updates.
Raid progression
The raiding situation is looking pretty great at the moment. It started off this wednesday with a team downing Sartharion without any problems at all. We probably should have taken on a drake or two, but who would have guessed it would be that easy?
Fast forward to today (saturday) where Gwers Naxx team downed the 4 quarters. We probably could have kept going with Saph and Kel as well, but some people had to leave. It was a long raiding day after all. Fortunally there's a day tomorrow as well.
As i'm writing this our second Naxx team headed by Enkil have hopefully just entered the walls of the citadel.
With 2 teams raiding Naxx we are not far from 25mans, which we hope to have running in a couple of weeks.
News in the world
As you may know patch 3.0.8 will hit fairly soon. Most people thought it would last week, but that didn't happen. It is fairly likely that it will hit this wednesday, and if not atleast next week.
While this will affect your class in some ways what i'm about to talk about is trading in general and Enchanting in particular.
Enchanting will have a major overhaul, you can see all the changed on MMO-Champion.
The most notable change here is that everything will use less Infinite Dust and more Dream Shard.
What this mean for you is that as soon as the patch hits the prices for Dream Shard will skyrocket and the prices for Infinite Dust will go down by allot.
I've already begun buying the shards I need and I recomend you doing the same if you plan on having any of those enchants in the near future.
Now, enchanting isn't the only profession that have major changes, most are changed in some ways or another, if by nothing else by getting new recepies. For more information on how this affects your professions I recomend the Insider Trader blog on wowinsider that give a short roundup on all professions.
The Fun Part
To end this first Weekly Update I would like to post a Machinima that I recently found. Probably among the most beutiful ones.
Might not make total sense to post it here under "The Fun Part" as it's pretty sad, but I think it's a great view. And yes, I know xmas is over, but if the shops can start Xmas in October I can keep it up into january!

Northrend - How to get there
|
How do I get to Northrend?
For Alliance, head to the northernmost dock at Stormwind Harbor to get to Borean Tundra or take the boat out of Menethil Harbor in the Wetlands to be dropped off in Howling Fjord.
Consider camping out your character at one of these spots the night before launch so you can head right over as soon as you have the expansion loaded on your system.
I’m in Borean Tundra and my buddy is in Howling Fjord. How do I get to him?
There is no direct boat ride, zepplin or flight point between the two starting zones. There is a series of Tuskarr villages along the coast line that will offer you rides between them via giant sea turtles. You can take them all the way from BorTun to HF or vice versa. Just head to up the coast until you find a dock with a walrus guy. There is a stopover in Dragonblight.
Where are the new instances I can play immediately?
In Borean Tundra, the 5-man instance is The Nexus. To get there, head to Amber Ledge. It’s a mage tower on a hill overlooking the ocean to the west. To get there head north west out of Valiance Keep.
Once there, take a dragon flight to Coldarra (the icy island to the west) where you land in a mage-created settlement called the Transitus Shield. Take the road north east out of TS to an icy cave, but beware aggro mobs along once outside the shields. Once inside the cave, head to the bottom to enter The Nexus.
In Howling Fjord, you are looking for Utgarde Keep. This is very simple - simply head north out of Valgarde keep to the other side of the Vrykul viking settlement. You will see a large stairwell set into the cliff face. Run up it and into the instance.
Where’s the new Shattrath?
That would be Dalaran. Both Horde and Alliance can use the amenities this neutral city offers. Like Shattrath, there will be no class trainers or Auction House, but there will be Grand Master profession trainers and one-way portals to all the major cities in Azeroth (including one to Shattrath.) There will be mage portal trainers which will come in handy since you can’t get to Dalaran before level 74 unless you use a Mage portal. Without a portal, you’ll have to wait until level 74. At that point, you can get a quest that will allow you to use a crystal on the floor of the Crystalsong Forest that will take you to the floating city. Once there, bind immediately.
When can I use my flying mount?
Level 77. It used to be a quest, now it’s just trainable in Dalaran. For 1,000g (950g with Dalarn faction.) Look on the bright side, no more turtle boats.
